Fresh into a new year, you may be thinking of creating a new home decor style. If you’re looking to revamp or spruce up your living quarters, the best way to stay ahead of the curve is by using popular, moody colors and unique, textured design elements that are now trending but also timeless.
In this blog, I’ll share with you our top decor trends for this year as well as the color palettes that are likely to make a comeback.
Here’s a sneak peek into the home design trends of 2024 that are worth investing in.
Boucle, fringe, rattan and other textures are expected to be extremely popular in 2024. This can extend to “geometrics, wood grains, faceted designs, patinaed textures, and unique curves,” according to prominent designer Stacy Garcia. Garcia says, “Wood grains, introduce a natural essence to the trend, infusing warmth and character into every aspect. On the other hand, patinaed textures add an authentic touch. These emulate the passage of time, offering a vintage and aged aesthetic through distressed finishes. Together, these textures create a harmonious connection between the built environment and the beauty of nature, while providing a unique charm.”
This new trend for textures even extends to walls – high gloss is out and textured is in! Think hand-plastered or brushed.
When incorporating this trend into your home, you can also opt for ethically sourced materials that are responsibly harvested or recycled. By using natural materials in your home, you can help reduce the environmental impact of your lifestyle and create an inviting atmosphere for you and your family.
Popular colors for 2024 are sure to include black and dark gray, as well as deeper purples such as amethyst and plum. These dramatic colors create an atmosphere of elegance, sophistication, and provide a modern touch. The gray especially is muted and goes great with various other colors and materials. Most people describe these colors as “dark and moody” colors! But, they provide an excellent backdrop for your décor.
These “bold hues” are seen as the new neutral. According to Jodi Berger of JLA Designs, “I can see my clients wanting to use these statement hues in entrance spaces or in smaller spaces, like powder rooms or offices, to make a big impression without having to commit to color like they would in larger, open areas in their homes.” In addition, Linda Hayslett of LH.Designs says, “Homeowners are embracing this dark color because moodiness is more appealing to people for their homes in 2024.” For a soft black, consider using “Cracked Pepper,” Behr’s Color of the Year.
Gallery-type spaces in the home are becoming more and more popular. This can include statement pieces that showcase your personality and provide a talking point with guests. Additionally, big and abstract pieces can create a vibrance of color on a plain wall. Incorporating work from local artists is a fantastic idea. Check out your local farmer’s market or do a quick google search for local artists in your area to commission a unique piece.
The best way to design a gallery wall is to choose a large piece for the middle and then keep a close eye on the balance of materials, color, and flow from one piece to the next, according to Crate and Barrel.
“Or, one other technique, is mapping out the arrangement of frames on the wall using paper. Trace all of the frames onto a large piece of Kraft paper, then cut them out and tape them to the wall. You can move them around until you get the balance you want.”
Unique tiles, including those that are handmade and great quality, will be popular in 2024. Specifically, terra cotta tiles are also super popular right now. Additionally, look for black marble subway tile, the beige penny floor tiles, black and white floor tiles, and glassy, porcelain vintage tiles to be prevalent in 2024 for flooring and walls.
You may also consider a white marble statement wall or even a matte-encaustic-look floor tile.
“Subway tile will always be around, but we’re seeing a creative influx of hand-pressed looks in varying sizes, colors, and shapes of the classic tile,” says Jennifer Verruto, founder and CEO of Blythe Interiors. “People are getting more playful with layouts whether it be a vertical stack offset, a double herringbone, or basketweave. Our clients are still loving the classic yet elevated look.”
This is our favorite new trend! Curvy furniture and particularly, fun, curvy, unique shaped mirrors are in! Think irregular shapes and oversized – asymmetrical, oval, or soft corners.
These interesting pieces are fun, and enhance more traditional furniture and looks. They provide a fresh and new dimension to regular, more traditional styles.

Lamps of all kinds for your lighting is going to be huge in 2024. This includes vintage lamps, pendant lamps, unique lamps, and both table and floor pieces. When planning your lighting features, be sure to incorporate this new design trend.
“We’re seeing a resurgence into decorative lampshades on table and floor lamps, as well as sconces,” says Daher. Woven basket-style lampshades are hot, and they feel both rustic and English cottage-y. Plaster and white gesso chandeliers and sconces also are popular,” according to CEO and creative director of Kerrie Kelly Studio.
“Mix all of these various fixtures that complement your decor to achieve a harmonious and functional lighting plan that enhances the beauty and functionality of your space.”
