Position Summary:

We are looking for a full-time Property Management and Staff Accountant to join our expanding team! You’ll be responsible for keeping our financial records organized, including tracking accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring that each account is reconciled correctly. You will also work directly with our Property Management team processing tenant receivables and vendor payables, monthly owner account reporting and analysis, tracking and reconciling annual expense reimbursements and supporting our Property Management division in accounting related matters.  This is an opportunity to bring order to our growing real estate office and see tangible results from your work on a daily basis with potential for growth into Controller/CFO position. Rockwall, Texas – M&D Real Estate Headquarters

Staff Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Positively represent the M&D brand at all times, whether working with vendors, internal contacts, coworkers, and/or leadership team
  • Problem solve, offering solution based and helpful dialogue
  • Handle all accounts payable and receivable to make sure each invoice and expense report is accurate 
  • Set up and communicate with vendors
  • Check accuracy and disperse monthly owner statements including communication with property owners related to property accounting
  • Track CAM accounts for commercial properties and reconcile expense reimbursements annually
  • Working with Property Managers, create annual budgeting for commercial and multi-family properties
  • Reconcile all business accounts to ensure our records match up and no transaction gets lost 
  • Enter financial data into computer software, making sure all bills and invoices are filed correctly 
  • Facilitate all incoming payments and outgoing checks, including printing, obtaining signatures for, and distributing checks as necessary 
  • Create detailed journal entries and post them to the general ledger (GL) to track all income statements and expenses 
  • Follow up with vendors for accounts payable and keep in touch as needed for collections and ensure bills are paid on time 
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the CEO’s attention
  • Meet financial deadlines by prioritizing and systematically organizing scope of work
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
  • Record adjusting journal entries as needed
  • Review all inter-company transactions and generate invoices as necessary
  • Participate in the annual financial audit process
  • Internal and ad hoc reporting
  • Assist in month-end close process
  • Identify and assess business and departmental needs to achieve satisfaction
  • Validate and approve payroll for company
  • Support immediate and extended teams, while adding value and heightened contribution

Staff Accountant Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Preferred, or Equivalent Experience
  • Property Management Accounting Experience Preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience in Accounting
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) 
  • Accounting experience in real estate preferred, but not required
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel & Quickbooks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Pro-active self-starter with strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $60,000 – $90,000 Annually, Based on Experience
